Bangkok rental guide

BANGKOK RENTAL GUIDE
1. Bangkok Guide
The Australian/New Zealand Women’s Group’s Bangkok Guide is probably the most comprehensive guide to life in the city. For more information, see Bangkok Apartment Renting website.

2. Bangkok Schools
There is a range of international schools in Bangkok and we are pleased to provide links to the websites of some of the most popular schools:
3. Bangkok Hospitals
There are a number of very good hospitals in Bangkok offering excellent services that provide 24-hour outpatient, medical and ambulance services. The main hospitals in expatriate residential locations are:
4. Water Supply
We do not recommend you drink water from the tap in Thailand. Most people buy treated, bottled water. It is available in quart-sized, sealed, plastic bottles or in large, sealed plastic containers. These are made for water-cooling units which can be rented or bought for family use and are cheaper in the long run. Deliveries can also be arranged.

5. Electric Supply

Electrical power in Thailand is 220 volts x 50 cycles/sec. Power outlets are not grounded (earthed) and usually accept flat (and sometimes round) two-pin plugs which are produced in Thailand.

6. Gas Supply
Many kitchen ranges are fuelled by bottled gas (LPG) delivered in cylinders. An initial deposit is paid for each cylinder. Full cylinders are delivered promptly on request, although it is useful to keep an extra cylinder standing by.

7. Pest Control
Most homes and gardens are treated monthly for cockroaches, termites, ants and other pests. In apartments this is usually arranged by the management. If you live in a house and wish to have it sprayed, check with the landlord.

8. Security
Most apartment buildings and housing estates and condominiums are guarded 24 hours a day.

9. Refurbishment
Landlords will tend to refurbish residential property upon the request of a new incoming tenant but are unlikely to agree to specific alterations or improvements.

10. Furniture
Most property for rent in Bangkok is fully furnished, but some is available partly furnished or unfurnished.

Furniture that is shipped from abroad should be suitable for a hot, tropical climate.

11. Kitchenware
Department stores and shops stock a comprehensive range of white goods, appliances and kitchenware. Glass, china and silverware are all widely available.

12. Air-conditioning
Most air-conditioning is in the form of split-type units which are controlled by the individual tenant.
