Developers Become More Selective on Site Acquisition
There were series of challenges for the Bangkok property market in the last quarter of 2018 that will bring significant changes to the property landscape of 2019, these challenges were: (1) rising interest rates, (2) tighter mortgage lending regulations, and (3) weaker domestic residential demand.
Rising interest rates will increase the cost of borrowing, mortgage interest payments, and returns on bank savings deposits. If interest rates continue to rise, it could slow down property investment by property developers due to increased development costs and could reduce buy-to-rent investment by individual condominium purchases due to the increased attractiveness of returns on other fixed income investment.
