Bangkok Industry – U-Tapao Airport Draws Interest

By on Jun 16, 2015 in Industrial, Property News

Bangkok industry transport links have had a boost. The long overlooked navy operated airline, U-Tapao is being looked at from some of the carriers looking to develop new destinations.  Air Asia is due to put in place 4 weekly scheduled flights from Kuala Lumpur to this airport and Thai Air Asia is hoping to make U-Tapao its new hub by linking it with other Thai cities and China.

The airport is 190 km south east of Bangkok and is currently under used with just Bangkok Airways providing limited but regular flights to Koh Samui and Phuket and in recent years international charter flights from Russia for holidays in Pattaya. Due to Russia’s economic crisis there has been a dramatic drop in the number of flights. The new carriers mark the beginning of a new phase for the airport.

The main reason for Thai Air Asia to put plans in place is to service the influx of Chinese tourists for Pattaya, but at the same time there is increasing demand from people living and working in the eastern coastal areas who would prefer to avoid travelling to Suvarnabhumi airport.
