The eight hotels, with a combined 4,152 rooms, are the Anantara Bangkok Riverside & Spa, Chatrium Hotel Riverside Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, Millennium Hilton Bangkok, The Peninsula Bangkok, Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside, Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel & Towers and Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok.

They have formed a business group called the Bangkok Riverside Marketing Partnership (BRMP).

Daecha Tangsin, an executive vice-president of the Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside, yesterday said tourism along the river was growing enormously with new hotels such as the Avani Bangkok Riverside and the planned new Four Seasons Bangkok.

New shopping projects include the Yodpiman Riverwalk, near Pak Khlong Talat and Sanam Chai subway station, and the planned Asiatique the Riverfront II, which will accessible from Taksin Bridge skytrain station via the project’s free ferry.

“The expansion of mass-transit routes to riverside areas will support tourism growth,” Mr Daecha said.

“This area has proved popular with locals and foreign tourists alike.”

New riverside developments on Charoen Krung and Charoen Nakhon roads are expected to be finished by 2018.

“We hope tourism in the Charoen Krung-Charoen Nakhon area will increase five times over the next three to five years, putting that section of the river squarely on the Asian tourist map,” said Mr Daecha, who is also director of the Thai Hotels Association.
