Chatuchak Market to receive facelift

By on May 16, 2012 in Property News

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is working on a facelift plan for Chatuchak market in Bangkok.

SRT’s deputy director for operations and Chatuchak market director Jaraspan Wacharothai said the 104-million-baht project will cover immediate and long-term improvements of the market over five years. Landscape improvements will come first _ more attractive walkways and gates are to be built this year.

The SRT will keep Chatuchak as a weekend market for now, but will conduct a feasibility study to decide whether the market should be open every day or stay open late into the night. It says market stalls can be sub-contracted at reasonable rates.

The SRT, which owns the Chatuchak market land, took over operations of the market from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration early this year.
