Good News for Thai Tourism

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited reported October 2009 passenger numbers and flights.

The statistics show significant improvements over the last three months which is positive news for Thailand’s tourism industry.

At Suwanaphoomi Airport there were 149,535 international aircraft movement (arrivals and departures) in the period January to October down 8.08% on the same period last year.
There were signs of recovery as the October 2009 number was only down 2.07% compared to October 2008.

Domestic aircraft movements for the first 10 months of 2008 were up 22% on the same period last year and the number of domestic aircraft movements for October was up 37% on October 2008.

International passenger movements (embarkation and disembarkation were 24,414,263 for the first 10 months of 2009 down 11.73% from the same period last year).

We are seeing signs of recovery. October numbers were 2,714,656 million up 10.48% on October 2008.

Domestic Passenger movements saw significant increases with a 38.2% increase year on year for the first ten months to 8,272,556 and a 54.88% increase for the month of October compared to October 2008.

In Phuket international aircraft movements for the first ten months of 2009 were down 4.17% on the same period last year. Again we are seeing signs of recovery with a 6.74% increase in the month of October 2009 compared to October 2008.’

In terms of international passengers (embarkation and disembarkation) Phuket saw an 8.26% decline for the first 10 months to 1,765,327 but the last three months have seen significant year on year increases up 8.59% year on year in August, a huge 43.05% in September and 15.12% in October 2009.

Domestic passengers (embarkation and disembarkation were down 2.37% year on year for the first ten months of 2009) but again we saw a dramatic increase in the last three months up 13.65% in August 33.27% in September and 14.16% in October.
