Hilton Worldwide announced today (June 1) that it will take over management of the former Courtyard by Marriott hotel at Surin Beach.

The hotel was one of three in Phuket owned by Destination Resorts Co of Bangkok and managed by Marriott until January this year when the two companies parted ways.

Now Hilton is to come in and reopen the hotel under its DoubleTree brand, its seventh such hotel in Thailand and the second on Phuket.

“Thailand is a key focus market for us as it holds enormous potential for accelerated growth,” said Andrew Clough, Hilton Worldwide’s senior vice president of development for the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

“Phuket, being one of Asia’s leading leisure destinations, is renowned for its Thai hospitality which makes it perfect for the DoubleTree by Hilton brand.

“Hilton Worldwide has been in Thailand since 1983 and we are very pleased to welcome the addition of the DoubleTree Resort by Hilton, Phuket – Surin Beach.”

Gary Murray, CEO of Destination Resorts, declared himself equally delighted. “The strength of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand globally will be key in building the future success of this property.

“This is the second time we’re working with Hilton Worldwide, following the successful 12-year partnership at Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa.

“We are confident that, with Hilton Worldwide’s exceptional hospitality experience, the [hotel] will bring tremendous value to the overall growth of Phuket as one of the region’s top tourism destinations.”

There is no news yet about the future of the other Destination properties formerly managed by Marriott in Patong and Kamala. The property in Patong, which includes the premises of Hard Rock Café, is for sale.

The Surin hotel will reopen under the new name after a period of refurbishment.
