The Department of Airports plans to expand Krabi airport’s capacity to serve the increasing number of low cost airline flights.  The move supports the policy set by the Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith which is to use Krabi airport as a back-up facility for the overcrowded Phuket airport.

Krabi aiport was originally designed to handle 3 million passengers per annum, but the numbers keep rising. Chula Sukmanop, the Department of Airports Chief said the number of passengers using the airport last year surged 30% from the year before. Mr Chula said the department’s airports are now doing better financially as budget airlines have launched more flights and the upgrade will cost more than 2.5 billion THB.

The Department of Airports is also planning a new airport in Yala’s Betong district and the construction of Phuket airport’s new passenger terminal is now complete and will be opened in June.

New development projects for airports should help the value of investment property for sale.
