Phuket Yachting Industry Boost – New Yachting Event Feb 8- 14

The government will launch Thailand’s first yacht show next month in a bid to promote the country as the most favored destination for superyachts in Asean. The Tourism and Sports Ministry, The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Marine Department, the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation and the Transport Ministry are working together to promote the event. The event is being organised by Singapore Yacht Events Pte at Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket’s Thalang district.

150 regular yachts and 10 superyachts are expected at the event.

At a recent meeting government agencies agreed that if Thailand wanted to be a regional superyacht hub, it must amend regulations to facilitate owners and related businesses. While superyachts can anchor in Thailand for 1 year, passengers and crew can still stay only 30 days.  Thailand has 11 world class marinas, mostly in Phuket and it is thought a successful yacht show will encourage more to be built.
