Siam Paragon gearing for AEC

Siam Paragon shopping centre in Bangkok says it has made major preparations for the Asean Economic Community, which will come into full effect in 2015.

Kriengsak Tantiphipop, executive chief marketing officer, said the AEC would allow all Asean member states to combine their resources, including people, of whom there will be more than 600 million in total.

“Thailand is the rising star in Asean, and with the AEC, many travellers within the region and beyond will come here,” he said.

Kriengsak said the AEC would allow individual tourists to use a single visa to visit any country in the region. Thailand is already one of the prime destinations preferred by individual tourists in the region.

At Siam Paragon, about 65 per cent of shoppers are Thais and 35 per cent foreigners. However, with the AEC, the proportion of foreign shoppers coming to the centre is expected to increase significantly to 45-50 per cent.

“We have created many initiatives to prepare for the coming AEC,” Kriengsak said.

He said the shopping centre had brought in many high-end and lifestyle products as well as special product selections to fit the demand of foreign shoppers. It has also developed marketing and promotional campaigns that are exclusively for foreign tourists.

“Our sales staff at all product divisions are able to speak many European and Asian languages, such as English, Japanese, Chinese and French, to serve greater numbers of foreign shoppers from within Asean and beyond.”

He said the shopping complex now attracts about 200,000 shoppers daily.

Siam Paragon in collaboration with more than 40 leading developers is presenting “Siam Paragon Luxury Property Showcase 2012“, an exhibition of more than 10,000 houses and condominiums in prime locations across the country. Investors and end-buyers will be able to enjoy several privileges. The event opens next Thursday and runs until May 20 in the Hall of Fame, M floor, and the Fashion Hall on the first floor of Siam Paragon.

Kriengsak said: “For five consecutive years, Siam Paragon Luxury Property Showcase has proved to be a massive success, and today it is recognised as a major high-end property showcase participated in by developers achieving high sales volume. This year, under the theme of ‘The Gallery of Life’, we are sure the exhibition will continue to offer the finest selections from more than 40 developers for home-buyers and investors.

“This year also, the price of high-end properties that offer upscale units at prime locations looks set to increase by about 5 per cent, reflecting the general increase in building and other costs.”
