Resort Holiday Boom on Back of Cooler Politics, WeatherPopular resort destinations near Bangkok will be bustling from Dec 5-10 thanks to the positive atmosphere from easing political tensions.

Surapong Techaruvichit, president of the Thai Hotels Association (THA), said Thai travellers plan to celebrate Father’s Day and enjoy the nice weather during the long holiday period.

Resort towns near Bangkok are expected to be packed with tourists just wanting to relax and forget the recent political turmoil.

The THA projects average hotel occupancy of 80-85% this month, on a par with this time last year.

The top two destinations for Thais will be Hua Hin and Cha-am.

Somchai Chompunoi, executive director for the Central region at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), expects domestic tourist numbers in Hua Hin and Cha-am will increase by more than 30%during this year’s period.

There are many venues to celebrate His Majesty the King’s birthday today,and Thais want to join the celebrations and express their loyalty to His Majesty while on holiday, he said.

Average occupancy in Hua Hin and Cha-am’s 10,000 hotel rooms will be 90%.

Apart from outdoor displays and other decorations, the TAT will also organise a mini jazz concert to attract tourists.

Tourists in need of accommodation can go to hotels in nearby areas such as Pran Buri or Muang district in Prachuap Khiri Khan, which still have plenty of vacancies.

For the South, this month’s average occupancy in Phuket, Krabi and Phangnga provinces will be 70-80%, while Ranong and Trang will see 60-70%.
