Thailand Industry – Airports Have 25% Leap in Passengers

The first 6 months of this year showed a 25% increase in passenger traffic through the 6 major Thailand airports. Passenger numbers reached 54.3 million. The statistics are pulled together by AoT (Airports of Thailand Plc) and reflect a robust recovery in air travel in comparison to last year during the political turmoil.

Surprisingly cargo traffic through the AoT operated airports was almost static with just a small increase of 0.66% in the number of tonnes of cargo traffic. It mirrors the slow performance of Thai exports.

Bangkok’s Don Mueang, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai had the highest percentage increases. Phuket had the slowest growth in passenger traffic but this is thought to be through the lack of airport capacity rather than passenger demand.
